South Pacific Tourism Exchange is one of the best platforms for tourism operators in Fiji to showcase the world their best offers of tourism places. This is the fourth year for SPTE to show its obligation in taking the tourism sector to further heights. BSP handed $60,000 cheque to SPTE as a way of support for the event.
To quote Christopher Cocker, SPTO chief executive officer, ‘’ Our Islands are Yours to #TravelEnjoyRespect”. He believes that tourism was the sole industry which experienced immense growth in the last few years. 80 wholesale buyers from Australia, New Zealand, and North America, and China, rest of Asia, Europe and United Kingdom are likely to visit. To quote Cocker, ‘’ Tourism is currently the only sector in the South Pacific that is showing positive growth. According to the World Bank, annual tourism visitor arrivals to South Pacific Islands will grow from the current two million visitors to three million by 2040, contributing about $US4.4 billion ($F9.1b) to the regional economy and creating 127,000 new jobs.”
Nirdesh Singh, BSP head of marketing said that BSP is proud to get associated with SPTO through the SPTE and as a regional bank. They were located at a comfortable position to assist member island countries in foreign exchange services. This was significant for local and regional operators to effectively probe into global markets.
