Last year, Philippines drew about 5.3 million visitors. Wanda Corazon Teo, Department of Tourism Secretary said that in 2016, she expects that the country would be capable of raking in at least 6,00,000 million tourists, at the World Travel Market London.
In the period between January and August, there were about 1,17,000 visitors from UK and it witnessed a growth of about 13.5%.
Corazon said that the increase was prompted by the introduction of an increased number of direct flights between London and UK. In July, Corazon Teo embraced her responsibilities and aimed to develop the regions of Philippines that are not so well-developed. As she did this, she continued her efforts to keep up the momentum that the nation had gained in promoting the destination for international travellers.
Teo said that the country boasts of 7,000 islands that tourists can explore and motivated travel agents to inform their customers to explore more options.
She then said that tourists can now stay for a longer duration in Philippines and also visit a few of the destination that are not so renowned. This year, the World Travel Market London has witnessed the largest ever presence of Philippines. It was represented by resorts, hotels, ground handler and 32 destination management companies.
Today, Teo is going to attend a media conference.
In this event, she is scheduled to highlight the goals and achievements of the Department of Tourism’s largest trade partners in UK that includes Expedia and STA Travel.
