The Port Authority is encouraging travelers to build in extra time to get to LaGuardia Airport beginning this Wednesday, as the final phase of construction to rebuild the road base and repave the roadway leading to Delta Air Lines’ Terminal D Arrivals area gets underway.
Workers with flags, new route signs and Port Authority police will help guide motorists and service trucks when a section of LaGuardia Road serving Terminal D and Parking Lot 5 closes to traffic, starting at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 through 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6. The closure is necessary to allow workers to rebuild the heavily used route. Port Authority Airport InfoAlerts also are being used to notify travelers.
The eight-day closure will involve the eastern-most portion of LaGuardia Road that leads to Parking Lot 5, the Delta Air Lines truck dock and ground transportation pick-up and drop-off points for Terminal D. The roadway needs replacement due to its age, deterioration from the elements, as well as residual damage from Hurricane Sandy. The work follows previous installations of new curbs, sidewalks, drains and guard railings.
Drivers heading towards Terminals C and D and Parking Lots 4 and 5 may face delays and should allow extra travel time to traverse the detours. A system of signed and staffed detours will assist travelers in getting to those areas.
