Xagħra (Gozo), Marsaxlokk and Valletta are three different locations around the Maltese Islands where the Malta International Fireworks Festival will be taking place. The event will start in Gozo on Saturday, April 22. It will be followed by a performance in Marsaxlokk on Friday, April 28. The Grand Finale of the event will be taking place in the Grand Harbor, Valletta on Sunday, April 30, 2017.
The closing ceremony of this event on 16th edition is going to be particularly special, as confirmed by The Ministry for Tourism and the Malta Tourism Authority. Apart from marking the anniversary of Malta joining the European Union, the closing ceremony will also celebrate to mark the Maltese Presidency of the Council in the European Union.
The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will be composing the music that will be used in the Grand Finale accompanied by the fireworks display performed by Pyroemotions and St. Mary Fireworks Factory of Ħal-Għaxaq. However, the latter was the winner of 2016 festival.
The member of All Malta Pyrotechnic Association and observers were allowed to apply for a position in the Festival, another new introduction this year. For increased local participation, the Organizing Committee has come up with an idea to reward the highest placed local competitor and an invitation to take part at the international fireworks festival. It will take place in the overseas to highlight the skills.
