The fishing village will be used as a base for the International Fishing Series held in November each year. It will be broadcast across Asia to about 35 million people. The competition brings anglers from China, Japan, South Korea and Malaysia to Australia where they fish head to head in a format designed specifically for television broadcast.
Marine Media Group chairman Michael Harris said the fishing village would capture a growing trend in the Asian tourism market. To quote Harris, “What we’re wanting on an annual basis is to turn it into a bigger event which will ultimately be a promotional vehicle to promote the region at large through recreational fishing. What they see on TV is what they will be able to experience firsthand. It will be an authentic style of accommodation and rather simple but that suits the location.”
The village is expected to be operational within three years. The village will suit everyone from novices to experienced anglers.
