Never in the history of luxury travel have five competing cruise lines banded together for a common goal – to host the industry’s top executives – but that’s exactly what will happen when international luxury travel network Virtuoso® holds its 2018 Symposium March 17-22 in the Netherlands. Each of the five lines will dedicate one ship to accommodate Symposium attendees, and all will follow an identical itinerary. The participating cruise lines are AmaWaterways, Avalon River Cruises, Crystal Cruises, Uniworld Boutique River Cruises and Viking Cruises.
The Symposium cruises will depart from Amsterdam March 18, then sail to Arnhem, Rotterdam and Kinderdijk in the Netherlands before returning to Amsterdam on March 21. To highlight the dovetailing that occurs between cruising and hotel stays, all six Virtuoso preferred hotels in Amsterdam will host Symposium attendees: Conservatorium Hotel Amsterdam, Hotel De L’Europe, InterContinental Amstel Amsterdam, Pulitzer Amsterdam, Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam, and Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam.
“This level of cooperation among competing river cruise lines is unparalleled in the history of the travel industry,” said David Hansen, senior vice president, Virtuoso Events. “Turning this bold vision into a reality for the 2018 Symposium happened because of the strength of our personal connections and the collaboration that flourishes within the network, where members, partners and Virtuoso come together to achieve a common goal. We can’t wait to welcome the world’s leading luxury travel executives on board for this once-in-a-lifetime experience in a scenic country with its cultural metropolis, historic waterways and quaint villages.”
Virtuoso Symposium is a high-level business meeting that brings together the most significant decision makers in the travel industry, including key agency members and preferred partners. The event features an executive-level discussion on travel trends, challenges, opportunities, and the future of the industry, all while providing networking opportunities through the shared experience of an intriguing destination. River cruising continues to be one of the main travel trends, as identified in the 2017 Virtuoso Luxe Report. Symposium will allow Virtuoso members to experience various river cruise vessels firsthand and continue building their knowledge of one of the industry’s most popular products.
Hundreds of luxury travel’s top luminaries will attend the 2018 Symposium, providing the host partners and destination with invaluable exposure among this influential group. This includes the popular Design Your Day activities, where attendees select a tour of Amsterdam that maps to their own personal interests.
Virtuoso holds its annual Symposium in some of the world’s most exciting cities, from Cairo to Cannes, Singapore to St. Petersburg, Madrid to Mexico City, Buenos Aires to Berlin. The 2017 Virtuoso Symposium recently took place in Vancouver, British Columbia, May 3-7.
