Thanks to measures taken in favour of travel between Peru and Ecuador, the flow of tourists between the two countries is expected to see an increase of 10 per cent in 2016, says Ecuadorian Ambassador to Peru Jose Sandoval.
“Our projections suggest that tourism is expected to witness a higher growth rate of 10 per cent, I mean tourism on both sides,” he told Andina news agency.
Peruvian travellers were the most important group of foreign tourists for Ecuador with 175,000 Peruvians visiting that country in 2014 while Ecuadorian nationals were the fourth most important group pf visitors to Peru, after recording 225,000 visits in the same year.
The free movement of people across the common border is an important step taken by the two governments, as it goes beyond the standards of other nations, and allows citizens to stay for up to 180 days as a tourist in the other country.
