The three projects of late are endorsing night markets in three important tourist destinations like Ayutthaya, Chiang Mai and Chon Buri; organizing business-matching for the ones looking for job and startups associated with tourism; and creating a new digital platform to offer real-time travel information for visitors.
Anan Wongbenjarat, the director-general explained that the first night market to be endorsed will be in Ayutthaya province, followed by Chiang Mai and Pattaya in Chon Buri province.
“Ayutthaya is a model for the night market. The province has great heritage sites and welcomes a lot of tourists every day. It is not too far from Bangkok, but not many tourists stay overnight, so we will try to encourage visitors to spend at least one night in this province,” Mr Anan explained.
The department is hopeful to expand lengths of stay in Chiang Mai in the North and Chon Buri in the East.
As per Mr Anan, the DoT plans to set up business-matching in 2018. The event will be a platform for tourism professionals, tourist guides and job seekers who can network with small and medium-sized business operators as well as tourism-related startups.
At the event, job seekers and fresh graduates will have an opportunity to find work in the tourism industry. The DoT is still working in terms of venues and dates for event.
