As per the official reports of Statistics Canada, Canadians made 3.2 million trips to the US in May marking an 8% drop from the levels of April and about 6% decline than the same month last year. And, car trips to the U.S. were quite low down to 2.5 million during the month. It actually marks the lowest figure for that month ever since the year 2003.
During May the overseas tourists had made 544,000 trips marking a rise of almost 10% from last year’s level.
The number of foreign residents coming to Canada has been rising every year since 2009. In May 2017 it reached its zenith for the month of May since the record keeping commenced in 1972, according to the data agency.
Canada had embraced 190,000 travellers from Asia in May marking a increase of 14% since last year and hitting the highest May record.
Travel from Mexico rose by 75% from last year’s level with 32,532 visitors during the month. However travel from Europe has gone down by 10.9% especially from the U.K. Also, the U.S. citizens made lesser number of trips in May marking a decrease of 3.1% from April at 2 million visits.
The U.S. travel to Canada rise by 8% in the year 2015 and the same amount in 2016 prior to hitting a plateau in 2017.
