This move by the railways will facilitate easy booking of tickets and attract more foreigners and NRI travellers.
The facility is not available for sleeper and third AC and the foreigners can book tickets only in first AC, second AC and executive class of express trains in Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Gatimaan and Tejas trains.
Foreign travellers will not be allowed to book tickets in Suvidha trains catering to last minute travel planners.
A senior Railway Ministry official said that this will help the foreigners and NRIs in planning their holiday in advance and can book their tickets online using credit or debit cards without banking on travel agents.
IRCTC ticketing site will need visa details, passport and international mobile numbers while booking online. It would also levy Rs 200 per ticket as service charge.
In the event of cancellation, the current rules will remain applicable and flat Rs 50 will be deducted from the total fare.
Railways will also bring in an integrated mobile application for the passengers shortly. This will help in booking tickets, retiring rooms, taxis, porters, offering food and inquiry service among others.
