Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail is kicking off the festive season with the much-anticipated unveiling of WhoVail, the life-sized Dr. Seuss Whoville-inspired gingerbread house, on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 4:00 pm.
Locals and guests alike come from near and far for the grand unveiling, and in its 4th year, this year’s 140-square-foot (13 square metre) structure made with more than 2,500 gingerbread tiles and 360 pounds (160 kilograms) of icing, is bigger and better than ever.
Built in-house by the Resort’s master carpenter Frank Bontempo, WhoVail resides in the alcove off the front entrance, providing easy access for all to see. Inside is a decorative fireplace and hearth, along with the gingerbread tiles decorated by more than 50 children from Red Sandstone School, the local public school in the Vail Valley.
The structure’s detail and pattern work, along with the colourful gingerbread tiles, provides endless enjoyment for all. Even the three entrances into the structure come in all shapes and sizes – perfect for a child, a dog and one that is not too small for a mouse.
The fun doesn’t end there as Executive Pastry Chef Andrew Schweska and his “elves” have hidden ten themed cookies in and around WhoVail. Search high and low for a Flame cow, candy cane, Santa Claus, a snowman, the Grinch, a fish, Dr. Seuss hat, Max the dog, Christmas tree and a gingerbread man.
Join the Grinch, a few elves, the Resort’s General Manager Brent Martin and a guest appearance by Fizzy Bruno starring as the Grinch’s dog Max, on the Town of Vail’s officially proclaimed “WhoVail Day,” Enjoy holiday carols by the Vail Mountain Middle School Choir and complimentary green eggnog, cider and cookies.
