Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea has issued a call to all photographers to share their most inspiring images that evoke a sense of “wanderlust” – the natural desire to travel – via a Photocrowd challenge. Accepting entries through April 15, 2016, the contest’s grand prize winner will receive a scholarship to the Maui Photo Expedition including five nights of luxurious accommodations at Four Seasons Resort Maui, a USD 6,990 value. Runners up will receive prizes from partners Adorama, Adoramapix and Tenba.
Set for June 14-19, 2016, the Maui Photo Expedition is an unforgettable adventure in one of the world’s most beautiful settings led by two renowned photographers, Robert Caplin and Peter Lockley. The photography workshop includes on-location shoots, instructor demonstrations, networking with industry professionals, and group editing and critique sessions.
Caplin and Lockley plan to take advantage of Maui’s most dramatic and varied settings, teaching participants tricks and techniques as they journey to capture volcanic sunrises, secluded bamboo forests, spectacular sunsets, black sand beaches, and more. “Participants will come away with a better understanding of light, composition, exposure, production, editing and printing,” says Lockley. Photo expedition partner Canon will enhance the experience by bringing approximately USD 200,000 in top-of-the-line equipment and gear for guests to experiment with during the stunning on-location shoots.
Lockley, a sports and portrait photographer, works with editorial and corporate clients to create dynamic and storytelling images. Earlier in his career, he served as chief sports photographer for the Washington Times. He went on to work with such clients as ESPN the Magazine, the Colorado Rockies, and the NCAA.
Caplin, an editorial and commercial photographer based in Manhattan, specialises in travel, documentary, celebrities and portraiture. A contributor to the New York Times, Los Angeles Times and Wall Street Journal, his work has also been published in National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, TIME and Newsweek. His celebrity clients include Justin Bieber, Tiki Barber, Victoria Justice and Barry Manilow, among many others.
The Resort will serve as home base, welcoming guests back from daily adventures with five-star accommodations and the choice of dining in the Resort’s three top-rated restaurants or enjoying a treatment in the award-winning Spa. “Between the two of us, we’ve taught and attended countless workshops,” says Caplin. “The beauty of the Maui Photo Expedition is that it is not only a premier photography program in the most idyllic of settings – it is elevated by all the amenities of one of the world’s most legendary luxury resorts.”
