Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea announces a floor-to-ceiling transformation of its luxury guest rooms, suites and beyond. The project was quietly set in motion in December 2014, when a hand-selected group of executives gathered for a design review of the legendary resort. The group reimagined every detail of the property, redefining the luxury guest experience for today’s most discerning travellers and beyond. Almost two years later, the transformation is complete, and Four Seasons Resort Maui has emerged an even better place to see, be seen and be unseen.
The new room and suite features were developed in countless hours of collaboration between Wimberly Interiors, original architect of the Resort and designer of hundreds of luxury resorts worldwide, and Four Seasons hoteliers. The redesign was born out of imagination, technology, sense of place, pride, and – first and foremost – guest experience. What resulted was a human-centred design evident across every room and suite. “Each element of the transformation was thoughtfully chosen to create the best possible guest experience,” says General Manager Jean Claude Wietzel, who personally worked with Wimberly Interiors.
The largest rooms on Maui became even larger, as bulky furniture was replaced with sleek design elements. Dressers were moved from the main room into a bathroom nook, smartly transforming the space into a dressing room. This feature as well as the reorganised closet layout were both elements designed with Four Seasons guests in mind. A 65-inch ultra-high definition 4D LED television was mounted on a media wall, and a table interacts with a shelving unit – perfect for work or dining. A full-size sectional sofa pulls out into a queen-size bed, accommodating a family of up to two adults and two children. Private lanais extend outdoor living space with comfortable furnishings. And at the centre of every room is the exclusive Four Seasons Bed, which offers all the benefits of a fully customisable sleep experience, not to mention wall-mounted bedside lamps to free up space and personal reading lights integrated into the headboard.
Sense of Place
Every detail of the inspired new aesthetic honours the beauty and magic of Wailea. Meaningful art, textures and patterns were curated to create a comfortable retreat that inspires guests to experience the transformative nature of their surroundings. Graphic textiles by Eskayel design firm were chosen to match the enchantment of the Wailea coastline. The Resort’s professional fine art curator Julie Cline has introduced new contemporary artwork to further strengthen and celebrate the Resort’s Hawaiian art collection. Pieces were hand-selected to feature artists who have lived, worked or studied in Hawaii and lend a fresh or current perspective to the sophisticated design palette.
