Ski hostingAfter four years and many appeal hearings, the supreme court in France has confirmed the ban on ski hosting, signaling a final conclusion to the ancient practice of tour operators of motivating guests to traverse the slopes of the resort.

A statement that was released by a consortium of British tour operators led by Le Ski had fought against this case ever since the very beginning.

They questioned the authority of the French judiciary to uphold the ban on ski resorts based on the EU law while the country has already passed a vote to quit the European Union. The practice of ski hosting or social skiing involved offering the guests a golden opportunity to ride in a group and explore a resort. And, the hosts used to provide advice on how to best travel around.

Besides, they also used to offer recommendations of restaurants and bars.

But then, no sessions are available as a substitute for tuition that would educate the visitors with skiing. Therefore, critics have cited safety concerns as one of the major reasons for imposing a ban on hosting by unqualified representatives.

In February 2013, Le Ski, a British tour operator was found to have broken French law.

According to this law, the leaders of the organized skiing groups should be qualified snowboard instructors. This case was brought after a ski host in Meribel had been reported to the police. Le Ski had agreed the fight the initial verdict and it was backed by other tour operators.

Other individual cases involve a judgement against the Ski Club of Great Britain in the year 2015.

Over the last few years, several British visitors had leveraged the service while visiting the resort for the very first time. In a joint statement led by Le Ski. British tour operators said that they were disappointed by the verdict of the supreme court and cited last June’s referendum result as a factor in the decision.

Ever since the initial ruling in 2013, the companies have found out ways to continue offering hosting sessions, while complying with the law. One of the tour operators, named Crystal have already recruited qualified instructors from the Evolution 2 ski school.

And, the Ski Club of Great Britain is also filled with the instructors of European Ski School.
