In spite of recent terror attacks and various challenges, France has managed to stay the most sought after holiday destination in the world. In 2016, more than 82.5 million tourists visited France, although the figures were down from 85 million in 2015. A series of attacks in Paris, Nice and Rouen contributed to the decrease in tourists in France. Just last week, an Egyptian man carrying a machete was shot after he attacked soldiers outside the Louvre, the world’s most-visited museum.
Last year, the French government announced that it had planned to spend 10 million Euros on tourism advertising campaign for counteracting negative effects from attacks, aiming to attract at least 100 million tourists by 2020. According to foreign minister Jean-Marc Ayrault, “A great deal of work remains to be done to ensure France remains a global destination. France has suffered as a destination. 2016 was an exceptional year, with attacks, storms and strikes. There was a definite impact, especially on Japanese tourists.”
Officials in Paris said that they are planning to build bullet-proof glass walls for protecting the Eiffel Tower from possible attacks. Despite challenges, the beauty of France is attracting visitors than any other destination globally. France always offers something for every tourist, providing diverse holiday choices.
