The first two months of 2017 witnessed a major growth in tourist arrival with surge of Russian and Chinese visitors because of free on-arrival visas for the nationalities of both the countries. This year, Dubai saw a stellar growth of 12 percent in the first two-months of 2017 welcoming over 3 million visitors, according to the department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing. In comparison to the last year, growth rate was nearly four times higher this year giving a clue that Dubai is all set to hit the target of 20 million by 2020.
To quote the officials of Dubai Tourism, ‘’ Supported by growth in all key markets, China and Russia in particular drove the volumes and set the stage for a strong first quarter result. This period witnessed a 60 per cent growth in overnight tourists from China, with January alone peaking at a dramatic 102 per cent, while attracting a total of 157,000 Chinese visitors across just the first two months.’’ Last year, visitor traffic from Russia increased to 84 percent. February saw a huge 140 percent increase in travelers with total 65,000 visitors in two months.
