Four top French travel writers have been exploring the walled city of Derry and finding out about the city’s history and attractions. They were here as guests of Tourism Ireland and Tourism NI.
The journalists’ itinerary included a drive along the Causeway Coastal Route, with stops en route at places like Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, the Giant’s Causeway and Old Bushmills Distillery. The group also enjoyed a walking tour of Derry’s historic walls, as well as a visit to the Guildhall, the Tower Museum and the Siege Museum.
Monica MacLaverty, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Southern Europe, said: “Tourism Ireland was delighted to invite these influential travel writers to visit Northern Ireland. Their articles will be seen and read by over 14 million people around France, helping to raise awareness of the many things to see and do on a holiday in Northern Ireland.
“France is one of the top markets for tourism to Northern Ireland and Tourism Ireland has a busy promotional programme under way right now – to showcase Northern Ireland and continue to grow French visitor numbers in 2017. We are promoting the Causeway Coastal Route, as well as other iconic experiences like the walled city of Derry and Titanic Belfast. With our spectacular scenery, world-class visitor attractions and good value accommodation, Northern Ireland truly is a ‘must see’ destination. Our message is that there has never been a better time to come and visit Northern Ireland.”
