The victim was aged about 33. He was accompanied by his wife and they had arrived in Australia recently.
They had actually made a stopover at Connor Well on the Stuart Highway. The highway is located at a distance of about 100 kms from the northern part of Alice Springs. It was during this time that a 35-year-old man approached them.
According to the police, the man stabbed the French tourist in the neck.
However, the attack was an unprovoked one. The suspect managed to flee from the scene of the incident. But then, the culprit was arrested on Thursday morning immediately after an overnight hunt. Till now, police has not given the details of his identity.
It has been found out that the suspect would be facing court on Friday.
Travis Wurst, the detective at Northern Territory told the media that the victim had died on the spot. His partner was in a trauma and had to be given medical treatment at Alice Springs hospital.
