The bus will run on special tracks, which would allow it to go over the cars on the road. The bus will be able to accommodate almost 1200 to 1400 passengers on one go. It would also help to save fuel, as the bus would run on electricity, on a speed of up to 60 km/h.
The unique design was unveiled on Sunday, at 19th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo. The miniature version of the Transit Elevated Bus that soared over the cars was exhibited at the expo. The trial run of the TEB will be given by the middle of this year, probably in July.
Bai Zhiming, engineer in charge of the TEB project stated, “The TEB has the same functions as the subway while its cost of construction is less than one fifth that of the subway. Its construction can be finished in one year.”
The project’s chief engineer, Song Youzhou stated that the biggest advantage of the bus is that it saves a lot of road space. He also claimed that it is even cheaper than underground trains and the project is most likely to hit the roads way more quickly, as there is no need for supporting infrastructure. He also added that it can replace 40 ordinary buses and can save 800 tonnes of fuel or more.
Thus, travellers do not need to worry any longer about spending half of their holiday on the congested roads of China.
