GarutArief Yahya, Tourism Minister of Indonesia mentioned that the idea of nomadic tourism has possibility to be developed in Garut, town in West Java Province.

To quote Minister Arief, on Thursday while inaugurating the 2018 Garut Cultural Festival, “Nomadic tourism that allows travelers to be on the move is a concept that can be developed in Garut.”

The cultural festival arranged from February 20-27, of this year is part of the ceremony to honor the 205th anniversary of Garut District.

The event is simultaneously a chance to endorse the tourism possibility in Garut, which was previously known as “Switzerland van Java” or the Swiss of Java.

The minister observed and cited that authorities should not expand tourism in Garut by constructing permanent buildings, as these constructions would block the splendid natural scenery of the town.

Nomadic tourism is appropriate for Garut since 80 percent of the district is a natural conservation area.

“This kind of accommodation is suited to Garut,” he said, highlighting that the concept of tourism can be executed with caravans, glamorous camping sites and home ports.

A caravan is an accommodation with good amount of flexibility, while glamorous camping (glamcamp) is a luxury camp that treats tourists.

“If the tourists use a caravan, they can choose the best spot to enjoy the panorama.

Caravans can be rented daily, glamcamps rented monthly, while home ports can be rented for six months,” Arief revealed.

Previously, Minister Arief requested the Tourism Authority Board (BOP) of Borobudur Temple to instantly build up nomadic tourism in the area to speed up tourism development before the IMF-World Bank meeting in October 2018.
