The recent floods in Tbilisi have brought Georgia in the world focus principally due to its wildlife. Reports of hippos, bears and tigers on street have brought the world attention on this recently independent country which had just begun its race in economic stability.
The Georgian zoo which is part of tourism attraction, has suffered the worst decree. Residents of Tbilisi were left looking for lion and tigers in the street in the first hours of the flood. The animals had to escape from their premises as water entered the vast zoo compound.
Political parties are blaming each other for this natural disaster. Cutting corners on infrastructural development and a newly constructed highway is being held responsible for the flooding.
The old Georgian Orthodox Church has blamed the floods on previous acts of the communists who melted church bells and with the money the zoo was built. They feel that the act has been punished finally by God with the zoo getting destroyed. They feel that the zoo should be relocated.
However rescue operations were conducted with speed and the escaped animals were contained. Many voluntary forced joined and in a matter of two days Tbilisi was cleaned. However infrastructural work still remains to be restored.
Hoteliers have also confirmed that things are being restored speedily in Georgia. Tourism will also not be affected as efforts are being made to normalise the situation. Both public and private sectors are mobalized so it is easier to overcome a tragedy of such a massive nature. Many hotel staff members are also participating in voluntary services.
The city is showing tremendous unity and volunteers are working together to rebuilt the city from destruction. With such conviction and trust it can be ensured that the country is bound for an immediate comeback.
