The medieval old town of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck, celebrates the 30th anniversary of being crowned a UNESCO World Heritage site this year. The German tourist destination was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987.
To mark the 30th anniversary of its UNESCO status the city is holding a year-long birthday party for its residents and visitors under the banner ’30 overnight’.
One of the events will see the market square transformed into an open-air ice rink from 13 January to 19 February 2017.
The castle abbey will be the venue for three classical garden concerts held between June and August and it will also be offering a number of UNESCO-themed tours.
And from 1 July to 27 August 2017 the Schleswig Holstein Festival will take place in Lübeck.
