Sepp arrived in Northern Ireland today (16 May) and played at Ardglass Golf Club. Over the coming days, he will play the Dunluce Links at Royal Portrush – and will check out the set-up for The Open – and a number of other courses, including Holywood, Castlerock and the Faldo course at Lough Erne Resort. He will also visit Dunluce Castle and The Boatyard Distillery in Enniskillen. Sepp’s itinerary was designed by Tourism NI.
Footage and photos of Sepp at the various locations will be shared by Tourism Ireland – with the media in Germany and via its social channels. Sepp will share details of his visit on Facebook. And, the story of Sepp’s visit will also feature on Tourism Ireland’s website, Ireland.com, with a link to a dedicated page about The Open at Royal Portrush.
Sepp is accompanied by a journalist from a German golf magazine, called GOLFmagazin. An extensive article about golf in Northern Ireland will feature in the magazine in July – reaching around 44,000 readers, or potential golf holidaymakers for Northern Ireland.
“We’re delighted to welcome Sepp Maier to Northern Ireland,” said Peter Nash, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for Central Europe. “He’s an enormously popular and recognised figure, so his visit is a great opportunity for us to highlight Northern Ireland and the superb golf here to potential German holidaymakers – and to his many fans elsewhere around the world.
“Tourism Ireland is undertaking an extensive programme of promotions in Germany, and elsewhere around the world, to highlight Northern Ireland and The 148th Open at Royal Portrush.”
