The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) is once again organising a large-scale party to ring in the New Year. Title-sponsored by CT Environmental Group Limited (CTEG), the CTEG Hong Kong New Year Countdown Celebrations will be held on 31 December at Victoria Harbour, with the pyrotechnics and fireworks launched from both the harbour and the top of a number of skyscrapers on Hong Kong Island.
The show will last for approximately eight minutes and will include many elements,such as fireworks, pyrotechnics, music and a light show. Themed “Love and Joy”,this year’s celebrations will be focused around the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). To complement the theme, the show will feature wellover 160 ‘smiley faces’ and heart-shaped patterns symbolising hope and vitality, and bringing visitors and residents more positive energy.
Starting from 10:00pm on New Year’s Eve, cloud-shaped foam with ‘smiley faces’and heart-shaped pattern will be launched in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre area,echoing the theme of “Love and Joy”. Members of the public will get a chance to“Make a Wish on a Shooting Star” when the pyrotechnic “shooting stars” arelaunched every 15 minutes from 11:00pm onwards from the rooftops of seven participating buildings on Hong Kong Island. The shooting stars represent differentwishes, such as “career”, “health”, “fortune” and “love”. When the clock strikes 12,an eight-minute pyro-musical will kick off, with the 2016 numerals and New Year’s greetings in different languages shown on the LED screen on the façade of the HKCEC. The HKTB will display the live broadcast of the countdown pyro-musical on the south façade of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre to engage the crowds.
