Scottish-Airport-of-the-Year-2016-low-resGlasgow Airport, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, was officially crowned Airport of Year at the 2016 Scottish Transport Awards which were held at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow on Thursday 16 June.

The airport’s continued efforts in growing passenger numbers, securing new routes and its commitment to customer service were recognised by its peers who awarded Glasgow the title for the second year in a row.

It was a double celebration for Glasgow as airport ambassador, Sue Leaton, collected the Frontline Employee of the Year award. Sue has been a member of the airport’s ambassador team since its inception and is renowned across the airport community for having a real passion for delivering outstanding customer service.

In 2015 alone, Glasgow Airport secured 30 new routes and services including direct flights to Halifax, Nova Scotia; Budapest, Prague and Las Vegas. Industry trade body, ACI Europe, also confirmed Glasgow Airport was one of Europe’s fastest growing airports in its category during 2015.

The airport has continued this success into 2016 when it will launch 16 new services. It will also invest £25M in a series of major infrastructure projects designed to cater for the airport’s unprecedented growth in passenger numbers whilst significantly enhancing the customer experience.

Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said: “To have secured the title of Airport of the Year for the second year in a row is the perfect way to mark our Golden Anniversary and it is an achievement the 5,000 people who work at Glasgow Airport can all be proud of. As for Sue Leaton, I cannot think of a more worthy recipient of the employee of the year award. She typifies the passion that our staff demonstrate for customer service and it is a tremendous honour for her to be recognised by her peers in this way.”

The Scottish Transport Awards are supported by the Scottish Government and Transport Scotland and recognise excellence, innovation and progress across all areas of transport.
