The airport was awarded the title by the Airport Operators Association (AOA) at the annual dinner and awards ceremony, and the title was also decided by the Board of Airline Representatives UK (BAR UK), British Air Transport Association (BATA) and the Royal Aeronautical Society.
The judges praised the airport for securing 26 new routes and services over the past 12 months, continuing to grow passenger numbers and investing in terminal improvements.
The AOA is the national trade association representing the interests of UK airports. It has 50 airport members and 150 associate members.
Securing the industry award follows on from the airport’s success at being crowned ‘UK Airport of the Year’ at the National Transport Awards in London in October, as well as ‘Scottish Airport of the Year’ at the Scottish Transport Awards in June. The airport also secured a ROCCO award for Excellence in Customer Service at the Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce awards which took place on 20 November.
Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said: “Following our success at both the National and Scottish Transport Awards this year, it’s a huge privilege for us to be recognised by our national trade body as the best airport with 3-10 million passengers.
“2015 has been a fantastic year at the airport in terms of passenger growth and route development, and we are looking forward to another great year in 2016.”
Over the course of the past 18 months, Glasgow has invested over £25 million in terminal redevelopment works. This included a major refurbishment of international arrivals and the £3.5 million extension of its east pier, allowing the airport to accommodate an additional 750,000 passengers per year.
In December, Glasgow airport will launch four new services. easyJet will begin flying to Milan, British Airways will start a weekly flight to Salzburg and Blue Air and Wizz Air will both launch a new service to the Romanian capital of Bucharest.
