The Terengganu state in Malaysia has started receiving more than 3,000 international tourists for Visit Terenganu Year 2017 (VTY2017) event which is being held in conjunction with Visit Beautiful Terengganu 2017.
Terengganu state Menteri Besar (Chief Minister), Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said the biggest number, at about 1,000 of them, came from China and had been staying in various hotels in the state since Jan 2.
Ahmad Razif, who also holds the Tourism and Culture portfolio, had a dinner reception with the group of tourists at the Gong Badak Indoor Stadium, in Kuala Nerus, on Monday night. Also present was state Industry and Domestic Trade Committee chairman, Tengku Putera Tengku Awang.
The first group of trade tourists were from China, Thailand, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, Myanmar and Middle Eastern countries.
Razif said another group of over 15,000 foreign tourists was expected to visit Terengganu state subsequently.
He added the state government would fully display the beauty and uniqueness of Terengganu state to these tourists who mostly had never been to the state.
