Gloria Guevera Manzo was appointed by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) as the new president and CEO. She had a career that encompassed senior roles across private sector, government and academia.
She had earlier served as the Secretary of Tourism for Mexico and CEO of the Mexican Tourism Board from 2010 to 2012.
The global distribution system Sabre had her as the of Sabre Mexico, reporting to the board of directors of a joint venture between Aeromexico, Mexicana and Sabre Holdings.
She also served a Special Advisor on Government Affairs for the Centre on Health and the Global Environment at the School of Public Health, Harvard.
Gerald Lawless, WTTC Chairman said that, Gloria is a proven leader in the travel and tourism sector who will lead WTTC into the next phase of development with her unique combination of expertise and experience.
Ms Guevara on being appointed said that she is excited to build on the great foundation of WTTC which has grown enormously in stature and impact.She wants to expand the Council’s advocacy work for Travel and Tourism that accounts for 10% of the world’s GDP and 1 in 10 jobs.
She further mentioned that it was a critical time for Travel and Tourism and the 229 million people who bank on it for livelihood. There are environmental challenges with the ongoing terrorism, the future forecasts are strong for a more connected world that is increasingly divided needs to come together and be one voice.
The economic importance of travel and tourism needs to be brought out and shown how it is committed in creating a sustainable livelihood, protecting the nature and culture proving itself to be leading player.
The Mexican national,is married and has a son and a daughter, is keen on working with the Chiarman,Vice Chairs, Executive Committee and Members of WTTC to make the Travel and Tourism sector better understood by the government and people around.
