Gold Coast tourism upbeat despiteDespite the decline in domestic tourism numbers, the tourism industry on the Gold Coast is healthy, says Tourism Australia.

“The outlook is positive, very positive,” he said adding “the Gold Coast has experienced great growth in term of international visitors.”

Recent industry figures revealed a nearly 6 per cent drop in domestic tourists in the 12 months to March 31.

With the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the Gold Coast tourism expects to make up for the loss.

“These events only come once in a while and as we saw back in the 1980s, the impacts that the 1982 Commonwealth Games and 1988 World Expo, the impacts they had on Brisbane I think we’ll undoubtedly … see the same sorts of impacts here on the Gold Coast,” Mr O’Sullivan said.
