The inaugural Gold Festival of Cape Town had been arranged particularly with an aim to address the several challenges linked with seasonality and also boost tourist arrivals in the Western Cape in winter.
And, thankfully, it has been admired as a ‘huge success’.
The event represented a first in a series of key initiatives organized by the Federated Hospitality Association of South Africa (FEDHASA) Cape region.
The association, with the City of Cape Town, Cape Town Tourism, Wesgro and Accelerate Cape form a portion of an initiative led by Mayor Patricia De Lille to assemble a Local Organising Committee (LOC) to curb seasonality in this province.
Reg Ferriera who is the organizer of the tournament said that the event was hosted on four city golf courses between 21st and 25th August.
It had commenced at the Royal Cape Golf Club on 21st August, Monday, followed by the Durbanville Gold Club and Clovelly GC on Tuesday and Thursday respectively. It had culminated at the Milnerton Links Gold Club on 25th August that is Friday.
Ferreira said that on day one 72 golfing enthusiasts had taken part in the event, followed by 128 on day two, 64 on day three and 92 on day four.
He went on to add that this tournament marks the very first one for Cape Town and it would continue to stay here. He feels that the central idea is to encourage the growth of the Cape Town Golf Festival. He thinks that this would draw more tourists to this region.
