Governor Beshear today joined company officials and local leaders in Louisville to celebrate the grand opening of Heaven Hill Distilleries’ Evan Williams Bourbon Experience. The building – on Louisville’s historic Whiskey Row – is the eighth stop on the famous Kentucky Bourbon Trail® and the first ever in the city.
“Kentucky is already well-known for its rich bourbon tradition, and this newest stop on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail will only enhance that legacy,” said Gov. Beshear. “Bourbon is a big business, but more than an industry, bourbon is a culture, a history and a heritage built by generations of Kentuckians. I’m very excited to see this tradition grow.”
The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience will create 17 new jobs in the Commonwealth and a nearly $10 million investment.
“Heaven Hill Distilleries is proud to be bringing the bourbon industry back to Louisville’s Whiskey Row, and to be bringing the Kentucky Bourbon Trail to Louisville, with the opening of the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience,” said Heaven Hill President Max L. Shapira. “We are confident that our historically significant location, the quality of the visitor experience and the ascendance of Evan Williams as the nation’s and world’s second-largest selling Bourbon brand will make this facility a significant new addition to downtown Louisville’s attractions.”
The Kentucky Bourbon Trail takes visitors inside the Commonwealth’s bourbon distilleries. Guests experience the bourbon making process, view the facilities and amazingly beautiful surrounding landscapes, and stick around for an after-tour bourbon tasting. More than 2.5 million people have visited Kentucky Bourbon Trail distilleries in the past five years, including more than a half-million guests in 2012.
“I want to extend my congratulations to Heaven Hill for its investment in the urban bourbon movement through the opening of the Evans Williams Bourbon Experience,” said Sen. Gerald Neal, of Louisville. “This downtown distillery/tourist attraction will create new jobs and boost economic growth and development. It will be an asset to our already growing downtown and will attract many to the Main Street area. Heaven Hill has been a good corporate partner, and we wish them continued success.”
“This new facility is the latest example of the growing role Louisville plays in Kentucky’s signature bourbon industry, so I want to thank Evan Williams for making this investment and our state and local economic development officials for their work in helping to make this possible,” said Rep. Darryl Owens, of Louisville. “It will make a great addition to the Bourbon Trail.”
“This is a landmark day for Louisville and a tremendous milestone in the growth of our legendary Bourbon industry,” said Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer. “Having an official stop on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail is central to our tourism efforts and our partnership with the historic distilleries that make up this popular adventure. We are honored that Heaven Hill and the Shapira family have chosen to make this important investment downtown and helped spark the revitalization of our famed Whiskey Row.”
