Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) will be hosting free sessions for guides to meet with key stakeholders and tourism officers to learn how, when and why the new standards will be implemented.This will help in maintaining service standards across the industry.
During an intensive two week course tour guides will be provided with enhanced training across ahead of businesses. There will be individual assessments to determine to check if they are approved to operate under the new improved standards.
There will be approved tour guides licensed for free but they will have to display their registration number and uniform badges for easy identification.
There will be around 6,000 tour guides trained in the ambitious programme throughout Uganda which will be fully operational by 2020.
Lilly Ajarova, the CEO of Uganda Tourist Board mentioned that it is the first in a number of initiative that will ensure an overall improvement in the quality of tourism in Uganda with the ‘tourist first’ approach to customer service.
