Greece will be covered with a Wi-Fi cloud and everybody living and travelling to the country will have access to free internet announced the Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras in a television interview.
Though much was not revealed by the Prime Minister on how his government would accomplish this nationwide Wi-Fi cloud, he said that the process has already started and by 2014 Greece will have free Wi-Fi for all.
He also mentioned that he will make available to Greek youth that wants to start a business in Greece up to 8% of the new European Union funds that are distributed to Greece.
Greece is trying to attract investors and give hope to its young generation which is facing up to 60% unemployment and free internet will definitely reduce household expenses by one bill per month.
Greece can become a technology hub just like Estonia. There is more to this initiative than just saving money for the average citizen. The Greek Prime minister wants to give a signal to society and the international community.
Antonis Samarashad mentioned in his last trip to the U.S. that the priority of his government is to help Greek start ups succeed. He added that this is a slow process which will eventually succeed. He is confident that new jobs will be generated with this move and will definitely bring a boost to the Greek economy.
