“The Greek Glenti Festival is one of the city’s biggest community outdoor events and showcases the vibrant Greek community in Darwin, through performances and delicious food,” Northern Territory Chief Minister Adam Giles said.
“This hugely popular event is such a great example of the rich culture that the Greek community have and share with us here in the Territory.”
Festival attendees will get to indulge in delicious Greek food like dolamades, octopus, vanilla slice and baklava and immerse themselves in Greek culture and get the chance to learn the language in 15 minutes.
Dance performances from many Greek community dance groups, including the Gary Lang NT Dance Company will also be a highlight of the festival.
“Last year around 45,000 people attended the event and the Northern Territory Government is pleased to provide $130,000 to support the Greek Glenti,” Mr Giles said.
“I’d also like to extend a thank you to the steering committee of the Greek Orthodox community of Northern Australia, as well as the support of the associated clubs. Without their hard work and commitment to this festival it wouldn’t be what it is today.”
The Greek Glenti festival will run from Saturday 6 June – Sunday 7 June from 10am to midnight each day and everyone is encouraged to attend and enjoy this free event.
