A festive and inter-active program awaits you this New Year at Six Senses Douro Valley. Educational, entertaining and relaxing experiences are lined up from 24 December, 2015 to 3 January, 2016. All the secrets about the Douro, its wines, and grape varieties will be disclosed.
Whether enjoying a family retreat or a romantic getaway, all these year-end activities are specially crafted to enhance all the senses:
A wine course, a master class on hot drinks and a workshop on homemade jams produced with delicious local fruits and herbs are the ideal complement for a relaxing stay where the spa will play a major part.
The gastronomy, the wines and the music
Chef Paulo Matos and his team have prepared a full gastronomical experience for the New Year’s Gala dinner. A special dinner and babysitting services has also been prepared for our younger guests.
Cocktails made with the most fabulous Douro wines and ports will be served before dinner – the Douro valley night, the white port & tonic, are some of the signature drinks. Freshly squeezed juices, sparkling wine from the region and an artisanal beer called the ‘mean sardine’ will also be served.
The Vale de Abraão restaurant and its open fire will be the perfect setting for this exquisite dinner. Indulge in diver scallops from Sagres, blue lobsters from the Portuguese Atlantic coast, and cuts of Wagyu 6 plus beef, paired with fabulous whites and reds from the Douro region.
A local traditional musical group, ‘4 Wine’ will play its revival Portuguese pop music hits at midnight and from 2:00 am onward, DJ Diogo de Sousa will surely keep the party alive and get you dancing.
On New Year’s Day, a delicious ‘Day One Brunch’ including several cold and hot dishes as well as healthy and vegetarian options will be served.
This will be followed by a ‘Five o’clock Tea’ for children and grown-ups at the Quinta Bar and Lounge between 3:00 and 6:00 pm. The guests will enjoy scones served with jams, and local ‘cavacas de Resende’ which is a tribute to local Portuguese pastry. Tea lovers must try the Vintage or the Tawny Port tea that have a Douro twist to them.
