Grove Park Residents Invited to Find Out More About Upcoming Railway Upgrade Project

Published on : Saturday, March 30, 2019

Network RailResidents and passengers in Grove Park are invited to find out more about Network Rail’s plans to install new signalling on the lines from Hither Green to Mottingham, Grove Park and Bromley North.

This £81m investment is part of a major programme to deliver a more resilient railway across south east London and Kent.

Residents are invited to find out more about Network Rail’s plans in the Grove Park area on Wednesday 3 April between 16:00 and 20:00 in the Main Hall at the Ringway Community Centre, 268 Baring Road, SE12 0DS. Representatives from Network Rail and its contractors will be on-hand to discuss the project and answer questions.

Leigh Collins, project sponsor for Network Rail, said: “We know that signalling performance on this stretch of railway hasn’t been good enough lately. That’s why we’re replacing this aging kit with modern, more reliable equipment over the next year.

“This essential work is key to delivering a more reliable railway to keep passengers, businesses and families moving in south east London and across Kent. We look forward to meeting residents and telling them more about our plans.”

Minor preparatory work started in December 2018. However, the main re-signalling work, which involves replacing the signal posts, laying cables, replacing track and various other structures is about to get fully underway. The new equipment will be brought into service at Easter next year.

Welfare offices and site access will be located at the Grove Park Train Care Centre. There will also be a temporary storage area during closures of the railway at Bramdean sidings. Additionally, for staff and work trucks to be able to gain access to the work sites we will be using our railway access points along this section of line to gain access to the railway.
