The Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has decided to renovate and upgrade its residencies at Margao, Mapusa, Vasco and Calangute (annexe) in order to make them more competitive. Situated at prime locations in three towns and one coastal village, the residencies were constructed before 1980 offering just a few basic facilities. No major renovations have been carried out post-2004. Tenders for renovation including planning, conceptualizing, estimating and executing are expected to be floated within a short time.
Occupancy rate at GTDC residencies is either moderate or less than moderate in comparison to the hotels operated by private players doing reasonably good business, the only exception being during peak season in December.
“We plan to change the flooring and upgrade interior decoration, sanitary ware and electrical components,” one GTDC official said.
“During assessment, however, if it’s felt that any of the residencies in question need a structural change, we will take up,” the official said.
The corporation is also planning on giving its residencies at Miramar, Anjuna and Britona out on long lease.
