Mainly it is attempting to lure young travellers who look forward to enjoying short vacations. This western Indian state is aiming to develop a lot of tourist activities with an aim to achieve the ambitious target. Jenu Devan who is the MD of Tourism Corporation of Gujarat told one of the news media agencies that last year they had welcomed 4.2 crore tourists in Gujarat and they would like to focus mainly on young people.
He mentioned that Gujarat offers a range of interesting attractions like heritage and border tourism, festivals, eco, beach as well as adventure tourism.
He went on to add that they are trying to promote Gujarat on the global platform including Italy, east of South Korea, Japan and east Europe. They are hoping to raise the inbound tourist footfalls to 5% by 2020. He also stated that this state would continue strengthening its leading source markets including the UK and US.
Gujarat had attracted more than Rs. 9,000 crore investments for 220 tourism-related projects, as confirmed by one of the officials.
He added that they had received investment commitments of over Rs. 9,000 crore for developing and creating infrastructure for as many as 220 projects for the period between 2015 and 2020. Every year the government spends Rs. 200 crore for the purpose of promotion and branding of Gujarat tourism at different domestic and global platforms, said Devan.
Devan said that Gujarat tourism would be targeting metropolitan cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Delhi apart from tier II places including Indore and Pune which flaunts a high level of young working populace.
This Indian state is working on developing its medical tourism sector.
