Hainan Island develop its sports tourism to attract visitors

indexHainan Island, in South China is a famous tourist destination and an attractive choice in terms of international sports, making sports tourism a thriving business for the island province.


The Tour of Hainan has lately turned into an eye-catching annual event, both at home and foreign countries. The international road cycling tournament was inaugurated in 2006. This year it featured four inter-continental professional teams, along with fifteen inter-continental teams and the Swiss national team.


“Tour of Hainan becomes the longest race for live broadcast in the world,” said Chen Xiaohua, general manager of Tour of Hainan Co., Ltd, mentioning that its coverage has spread over 51 countries and regions with 350 million viewers from all over the world.


The worldwide competition was another reason that ignited the enthusiasm in sports throughout the island along with other countries. Of late, cycling has become the most preferred choice for the fans as thousands of people ride on their bicycles all through the island every year.


With no doubt, Tour of Hainan has moved forward in terms of sports tourism to a huge extend on the island, said Chen.


In addition to Tour of Hainan, the island province has organized many international sports like the Hainan International Marathon, Volvo Ocean Race, European Women’s Professional Golf Tour, World Longboard Professional Surfing, Blue Bay LPGA and World Women’s 9-Ball Championship as well.


Hainan is gradually getting closer to the world via these sports events. To the sports circle, it’s becoming more attractive causing a boom in tourism business throughout the island.


A week before, at Riyue Bay in Wanning, a surfing camp was set up, attracting 70 young people across the country.
