Hainan tourism is boosted by Launch Center

Hainan tourismThe Long March 7 carrier rocket was launched at Northeast Hunan region on Saturday night. Excited tourists and space fans came there in huge numbers to see it.

 
At 8 pm, it flew off from Wenchang Space Launch Center, which is one of the biggest contributing factors for growth in Wenchang city from the time the construction started in 2009.

 
State Grid Corp’s subsidiary, Luneng Group involved in real estate and clean energy, can gauge the city’s potential. It has planned to invest billions of yuan.

 
The projects which is still under work has the plan to include a 500,000-square-meter commercial complex, a 70,000 sq m shopping street,three world-class theme parks, 11 museums and 26 hotels.

 
Hilton Hotels & Resorts is one of the International Hotel brands which has been interested in this city with the Wenchang Hilton opening last year after three years of planning and work, while AccorHotels’ Wenchang Pullman is supposed to open next year.

 
These kind of investments have brought huge job opportunities to local farmers like Yang Songru, who lives in Longlou town, which is the location of the launch center.

 
Yang said, “The launch center in our town attracted many big enterprises, driving up local employment. It wouldn’t be possible for us to get jobs in our hometown without it.”
The Party secretary of Wenchang, Chen Xiaobo has decided to make the most of all the benefits that come from having a launch center in a city.

 
Over the last few years, Wenchang has made an investment of billions of yuan for he betterment of water and power supplies, road infrastructure and sewage disposable systems.

 
The mayor of Wenchang, He Qiongmei, said that the start of the launch center and the industries associated with it show a lot of promise for the future.

 
He compared the city to Houston, Texas, in the U.S.A., which is popular with tourists and said, “With the launch center, Wenchang now has a superior, developing space industry, and we are going to build our agricultural brand based on the achievements we have made. We are even better than Houston in terms of natural scenery, such as the coconut trees, sea breezes and our long stretch of shoreline. Space tourism will add charm to Wenchang, and attract more tourists.”

 
He also added that the local government has in mind to develop a space science and technology industry to amplify economic growth.

 
A 47,000 square meter tourist facility at the launch center, Wenchang Space Science Center, wishes to lure more tourists by letting them have a closer look at the command center, space vehicle assembly area and the space launch center.

 
On the cards are a spaceflight theme park consisting of moon, sun, four themed earth and Mars zones which is still under plans, and it aims to integrate science education, space tourism, academic exchange, and commercial use.

 
Last year, 1.73 million domestic and foreign travellers had visited Wenchang, getting the city about 1.2 billion yuan ($179 million) in revenue. Next year, the numbers are expected to get even bigger.
