One small anonymous email from the activist group “Islamic Caliphate in Europe” was enough to create a wave of panic at the Hamburg Airport in Germany. All incoming and outgoing flights from the airport were grounded instantly after police received a bomb threat via email.
The email stated that the group has placed a fatal bomb on the incoming Air Berlin flight with more than 170 passengers and seven airlines crew on-board. The flight took off from Munich airport and it was heading towards Hamburg on an Airbus A320.
Every scheduled flight in the Hamburg Airport was grounded to let the Air Berlin jet land safely. After the landing, the jet was moved to a far away location in order to maintain a distance from the airport and other flights. The luggage carried by every single passenger was checked thoroughly for any sign of explosives, but nothing was discovered.
An investigation has been launched by the state security to capture the guilty, who sent the email on 19th June. According to Hamburg airport spokesperson, the incident created just a minimal effect and nothing more.
Police spokesperson later stated, “The risk of an attack was labelled as high. You can assume from that that we took the threat seriously.”
Nowadays, flight services in various countries are getting hampered by anonymous emails and phone calls. It might be true that the terrorist organizations are just testing the defense of those airports for future strikes.
