The 26th edition of the Havana International Book Fair has commenced with the participation of 46 nations at Calle de los Artilleros in La Cabaña. The event has become one of the most important cultural event in Cuba, said Juan Rodriguez, president of the Organizing Commitee.
Besides the high attendance of guests, there will be a wide cultural and literary program and extraordinary popular participation this year, Rodriguez said during the inauguration.
Rodriguez, who is also the president of Cuban Book Institute, underlined that the 26th edition of the Book Fair will open ways for the development of new cultural and commercial initiatives which will address a great part of its activities to children and adolescents, as well as share digital editions.
Among the foreign delegations are Peru, Spain, Mexico, Venezuela, Russia, Ireland and Canada, who is also the guest of honor.
More than 30 authors and 18 editorial houses of that northern nation will be present in the Fair, which will serve as the platform to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation.
Considered the most important event in the Cuban editorial movement, the Havana International Book Fair will receive more than five thousand guests among editors, booksellers and authors.
During the event, up to February 19 in Havana, and which will later spread to other Cuban cities-, there will be a homage to the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro (1926-2016), through colloquiums, premieres of documentary films and the presentation of 24 new titles.
