Hawaiian Airlines today announced that it would launch non-stop flights between Boston and Honolulu starting in April 2019.
The move marks the first non-stop service offered between the two cities. Interestingly enough, it will also become the new longest domestic flight route in the United States, clocking in at 5,095 miles.
Boston Logan International Airport becomes the second East Coast hub to receive non-stop service on Hawaiian Airlines. The carrier began daily non-stop service from Honolulu to New York JFK in 2012.
Speaking of the news, Hawaiian Airlines President and CEO Peter Ingram said that Hawaii is actually the best place on the planet and they are making attempts to bring their islands closer than ever to Boston with non-stop service.
They mentioned that they also look forward to sharing warm hospitality with their New England guests, whose vacation starts the minute they check in and step onto their plane.
Boston is the largest U.S. travel market that currently does not receive non-stop service to Hawaii, and it is estimated that nearly 500 people fly between eastern New England and the islands of Hawaii most days. The airline said that travel between Boston Logan International Airport and Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport generated around $76 million in ticket sales last year.
Hawaii Tourism Authority President George Szigeti said that Hawaiian Airlines has been an important partner in making a Hawaiian vacation accessible to people from all over the world.
He also mentioned that the greater Boston market currently brings some 60,000 visitors to the island each year, who would now be able to fly nonstop to Hawaii aboard an airline that exemplifies their gracious local hospitality.
The new flight will go into service on April 4, 2019, and will be offered five days per week. Here is the flight schedule.
Hawaiian Airlines flight HA90 was given this number in honor of the airline’s upcoming 90th anniversary. It will depart Honolulu on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 1:45pm and arrive in Boston the following mornings at 6:00am.
