Heathrow welcomes the agreement reached at the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) General Assembly in Montréal yesterday, which puts aviation at the forefront of global action to tackle climate change.
Heathrow’s Sustainability Director, Matt Gorman, said: “Heathrow welcomes this agreement, which will allow the aviation industry to offset growth by investing in renewable energy, forestry and innovative technology to address climate change and stimulate the global low-carbon economy.”
Aviation is the only industry that has voluntarily agreed to reduce its net carbon emissions with the introduction of a cap on carbon dioxide emissions from 2020 and a 50% cut by 2050.
Heathrow is leading the way in reducing aviation-related emissions through our Blueprint for Reducing Emissions and by working closely with the UK Government, which championed this deal.
