Resorts in France and Switzerland were preparing for heavy snow this weekend, just in time for one of the busiest weeks of the winter. a forecast from the Ski Club of Great Britain predicted a metre and a half of fresh snow over the next week in the Swiss resort of Zermatt which means that The Western Alps weather is predicted to receive the most of the snowfall.
In Méribel, a perennial favourite for British visitors, is expected to witness a fresh start to the tourism season after a difficult time to start. The office of tourism said that the conditions are excellent allowed the resort to open pistes which was previously closed.
A spokesman for Crystal Ski Holidays said it had been snowing heavily in North America, as well as in Europe and some resorts have been struggling to keep up to the condition. nevertheless, the half-term skiers will have fantastic conditions and will no doubt enjoy themselves.
Snowfall in some parts of the Alps suffered from scarcity which made some of the resorts to rely on artificial snow-making. The use of cannons was so prolonged that authorities in the Haute-Savoie region of France considered imposing a ban to preserve the water supply.
Another potential downside of the snow clouds rolling in is the risk that high winds could prevent resorts from keeping all lifts open, and low visibility could dampen the excitement for fair-weather skiers.
