their son two years ago.

So they were delighted to take the top prize in a Visit Kent online pub quiz demonstrating their knowledge of the county and bagging themselves a Livingstone Lodge overnight safari experience for two at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park.

“We used to travel a lot but this was like no other experience. We went on a safari in the park, ate amazing food and stayed up very late talking to our rangers Andrew and Chloe,” said 39-year-old Helen.

“Our tent was triple layered and had two electric radiators. So, despite being a cold October night, it was surprising cosy and luxurious. We even had a four-poster bed, which was very comfortable.

“I’ll never forget watching the giraffe keeper trying to put Sebastian in the giraffe house for the night. He must have said ‘Come on Sebastian. Goodnight Sebastian’ at least twenty times. Who knew that giraffes were so stubborn.

“I’d love to go back at different times of the year to see the different sunsets and, of course, to enjoy more of the superb food we were served,” she said.

Realising that October weather may not be that balmy, Helen and Nick were well equipped with waterproofs and thermals for their safari.

“I’d recommend an overnight safari experience at Port Lympne to all my family and friends. It is so memorable. You just have to be prepared for the English weather. After all it is Kent, even if it does not look like it.”

Port Lympne’s Livingstone Lodge overnight safari was voted the UK’s best tourism experience in 2012.

Carole Thomas, head of communications at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, said: “We are very pleased that Heather and Nick really enjoyed their Livingstone Lodge overnight safari prize. The chance to stay in our unique accommodation and go on safari with our rangers is so popular – we were fully booked throughout the summer and already have many bookings confirmed for next year.”

Heather won her overnight safari for two by successfully searching the Visit Kent website to answer correctly a series of questions about the county, its history, its geography and its many visitor destinations.
