Police said the balloon, which is a popular tourist attraction in downtown Berlin, was caught in the winds and people had to crouch inside the basket to avoid falling out.

Police later confirmed nobody was injured.

The balloon is tied to the ground with steel ropes but can rise to a height of 150 metres.

Nineteen people and the balloon’s operator were in the basket at the time of the incident, a spokesman for the fire department said.

According to a Canadian tourist on board the balloon, things were so wild that he believed he would have died, had the balloon not descended.
