Cape Town Tourism’s recently launched campaign, Hello Weekend, is now in full swing with a host of themed Cape Town weekends to suit every personality. Adding a fun twist, visitors to the campaign’s micro-site www.helloweekend.capetown can take a quick quiz to determine what sort of weekend personality they are. If they find out that they are a ‘Food Fanatic’, a gourmet weekend in Cape Town awaits.
Cape Town boasts some of the best restaurants in the country and has recently been voted by readers of Condé Nast Traveller as the third-best food city in the world. Food markets, pop-up events and unique foodie hangouts add to the flavourful mix.
Blending eating and learning experiences to satisfy the ultimate culinary curiosity, it’s also a great time to visit Cape Town for a host of warming restaurant specials at many of the city’s top eateries.

Learn more about the Cape Malay history as you cook, and of course taste, your way through the cuisine with a sumptuous three-course meal.
Chef’s Table Mount Nelson
Food aficionados will love this front row seat to the real-life spectacle and drama of the goings-on in a five-star restaurant kitchen. Located in an alcove of The Planet restaurant’s kitchen at the Mount Nelson Hotel, guests of the Chef’s Table will be wowed by the skill and artistry with which these chefs produce one delectable dish after another and get tuck into the fruits of their labour while getting the inside scoop on their secret ingredients.
Jason Bakery, Bree Street
If the smell of freshly baked bread gets your mouth watering then head on over to Jason Bakery, a unique foodie hangout. This hole-in-the-wall bakery turned restaurant, on bustling Bree Street, serves up a wide range of delicious food including breakfast, delis, sandwiches, soul food and vegetarian options. Head there on Saturday morning as it is closed on Sundays, Mondays & public holidays.
The Tasting Kitchen, Franschhoek
The picturesque Franschhoek, just 75km from Cape Town, is home to several world-class restaurants and wine estates. But for the serious gourmand, The Tasting Room at Le Quartier Français is a must. Headed up by chef Margot Janse and winner of the EatOut 2014 Grolsch Service Excellence award, the restaurant’s African-inspired menu tells a sophisticated, authentic tale of local flavour and influences.
