The tourism industry gurus of Thailand are quite optimistic that the country will experience health tourism trend just like the last year as the strategy of quality tourism paid off effectively. Thailand is expected to earn more than 733 billion revenue from January till March which is tantamount to 8% yearly increase. The entire tourism revenue for 2017 is expected to reach 2.77 trillion Baht (US$78.25 billion).
Last year, visitor number and revenue earning reached 52 trillion Baht (US$71 billion) which is an 11% increase over 2015. More than 32.59 million international visitors spent 1.65 trillion Baht (US$46.74 billion) which is 13% and 9% increase year after year.
145 million domestic trips rose revenue to 8% which means 866 billion Baht (US$24.53 billion). To quote Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), “2016 was another record year for Thailand’s tourism industry, and we hope to maintain this momentum and attract even more visitors over the next few months. I’d like to point out that the growth of revenue was larger than the growth in visitor numbers indicating that the strategy of targeting higher spending, higher quality tourists had been a great success over the past year.”
