Malaysia was rocked as earthquake of 6 magnitude shook parts of Sabah on Borneo island. Some tourists were injured and people remained stranded on one of Southeast Asia’s highest mountains. The US Geological survey said that the epicenter of the quake was about 54 km (33 miles) from the state capital Kota Kinabalu.
Atleast 145 people are trapped, as many foreign and domestic hikers flocked to Sabah to climb the 4,095-metre (13,435 feet) Mount Kinabalu. The Minister of tourism, culture and environment said in a statement that a number of climbers were trapped in the mountain and were also injured.
It is still not known as to how many tourists were injured and how serious were their injuries. Loose boulders were falling after the quake. A hiker has posted pictures on social media from the top of the mountain. They are waiting for helicopters to rescue them. There are no reports of damages or injury in the rest of Sabah after the earthquakes.
